With a cash infusion from Healtheon/WebMD, Will Goldstein launched Medcareers.com, a job-posting Web site for health-care professionals.
There were 8,000 jobs when the site launched on Feb. 15, and Goldstein expects to post a total of 25,000 by the end of the quarter. Healtheon/WebMD owns 30 percent of Medcareers Inc., and there are several other investors whom Goldstein would not name.
Goldstein said there are no other job sites targeting the health-care industry exclusively, but he does face competition from broad job-posting sites such as Monster.com and Headhunter.net. Goldstein plans to offer his site free for six months and then he will start charging employers, he said.
He will spend $4 million during the next six months on marketing. He plans to advertise in specialty
trade publications, as well as newspapers in 20 U.S. cities.
Goldstein, 36, used to work in traditional health-care staffing.
He started Medcareers just six months ago.
"We are moving at Internet speed," he said. "You have to."
MedCareers employs 33 people at its Hammond Drive office.
Goldstein expects that number to double by May 1.
