ATLANTA, Feb. 15 (dbusiness.com) -- Doctors, dentists, pharmacists, nurses and health care administrators seeking jobs just got a new online helper.
Atlanta-based start-up MedCareers launched its Web site today at www.medcareers.com in an effort to create a staffing portal for the health care industry. On the site, job seekers and potential employers have access to an online database of jobs and resumes in the health care industry.
Those users looking for jobs can search for openings for free using key words or by searching by geographic region, posting date, company or specialty.
"As technology continues to enhance the health care industry, so will it enhance how health care professionals recruit," MedCareer President and Chief Executive Will Goldstein told dbusiness. "We want to be the first in the industry to recruit in this vertical market."
The site also offers both job seekers and employers a messaging center where they can communicate with each other directly through e-mail. Those users looking for employment can apply for positions directly online or save job descriptions in a personal file.
Once a job is posted on the site, employers are automatically matched with resumes that fit the specific qualifications of the opening.
Despite being launched today, the site already includes more than 10,000 openings for physicians, clinicians, nurses, pharmacists and administrators across the United States, as well as 4,500 resumes. By September, the company plans to post more than 200,000 available jobs.
"We've been building the site since September with both outside and inside salespeople getting the postings together," said Goldstein. "We didn't want to launch without a significant number of job listings. We wanted to show that we were very robust."
While the site will always be free to job seekers, employers will be charged a posting fee after the first six months of use, Goldstein said.
One-third of the company is owned by Healtheon/WebMD Corp., which is also based in Atlanta.
The other two-thirds of MedCareers is owned by a group of private investors. The company did not disclose the names of the investors or the amounts of their investments.
"We're well-funded and now looking for strategic partners," Goldstein said. "We hope to close a strategic round within the next 30 to 60 days."
The privately held company is located on Hammond Drive in Dunwoody and has 33 employees. Goldstein said that he hopes to double the staff by the end of the year.
