Founded in 1887, the San Diego Center for Children is the oldest children’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the region accredited by The Joint Commission for its excellence in quality of care. The Center provides evidence-based therapeutic, educational, foster care, and transition-age services to children and families struggling with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. Today, with 8 program sites and community-based services within hundreds of homes and schools across San Diego County, the Center empowers over 1,000 people every day. North County Academy serves 50+ students in grades K-12th, who are placed in the program through their Individual Education Plan. NCA was created to meet the unique academic and therapeutic needs of students with behavioral health challenges that affect their academic success. As the only program in the area equipped to provide this level of academic and therapeutic support, the environment is a unique blend of counseling, skill-building, and education. As a school-based therapist, you will be a part of a multi-disciplinary team of school administrators, teachers, behavior aides, and local school districts. The ideal candidate enjoys working in a fast-paced environment providing individual, group, and family therapy to students and their families from various diverse backgrounds.
Skills
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSLicensed MFT, LCSW, LPCC, or Psychologist. Two years minimum in a school setting or community-based program with kids and families with acute needs. Ability to work closely with school staff to develop and provide mental health services to support academic progress in the most least-restrictive environment. Enjoy working with families from diverse SES, ethnicities, family constellations, and a wide variety of diagnoses. PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS Bilingual in Spanish Experience or certification in TFCBT, EMDR, Attachment, adoption, Grief and Loss, MI, Family Therapy for treating substance abuse and trauma. Experience with providing multiple groups, risk assessment, and crisis management. Experience developing social/emotional goals for IEP and tracking progress to share as needed with school staff and other district representatives. Development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) with ABA interventions or have completed hours towards certification as a Board Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst BCaBA.
