Position Summary: The Director of Trauma participates as an active member of the leadership team in the Patient Care Division. This person directs the Trauma Department in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and continues to meet all department requirements and documentation to maintain Trauma Center status, ACS Verification and regulatory requirements for Trauma including those of The Joint Commission and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The Director of Trauma Administratively oversee and Assists the Trauma Medical Director with the scheduling, planning and conducting of the Multi-Disciplinary Trauma Committee, Performance Improvement Committee, Trauma Peer Review, education and business meetings for the Trauma Service. Develops and maintains system for Peer-Review tracking and communication with loop closure to both hospital peer review and trauma department peer review and for QA tracking with loop closure and reporting to Hospital Performance Improvement Committee and Medical Executive Committee. In collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director and subject to approval of the VP of quality and performance improvement develops, implements, monitors and as needed develops corrective action plans for Trauma Department specific performance improvement projects and monitored quality metrics to include hospital specific, regulatory and accreditation required and publically reported. The Director of Trauma will assure that the Trauma Service and activities are in compliance with ACS guidelines, Joint Commission standards, Colorado Department of Health Standards, HCA guidelines, and the Medical Staff Bylaws and all applicable regulations. Demonstrates advanced knowledge and skills in the care of patients in designated areas; coordinates interdisciplinary rounds, communication and care; and participates on hospital committees. Oversees all aspects of Trauma and maintains fiscal responsibility for programs. Assures that the Trauma activities are in compliance with ACS guidelines, Joint Commission standards, Colorado Department of Health Standards, HCA guidelines, and the Medical Staff Bylaws and all applicable regulations. Integrate current regional, national, and state indicators of trauma care and compliance into these activities on an ongoing basis. Responsible in collaboration with the Trauma Medical Director for the Trauma Multi-disciplinary Committee, Performance Improvement and Peer Review committee. Responsible for the development, coordination, and management of educational projects. These projects shall encompass, but not be limited to, inter and intra-facility, community and outreach programs relating to Trauma. Responsible for development and coordination of: prevention programs, specific outreach educational offerings, development of trauma education programs, management and coordination of scheduled conferences. Assists the Trauma Medical Director with physician relations including credentials, scheduling, and communication. Integrated multidepartment management position responsible for oversight of the Emergency Department and Trauma Program. Represents the Sky Ridge Medical Center Trauma Service at state and local trauma meetings. Works collaboratively with the Trauma Department to fulfill the mission of the Trauma Service. Provides reports on all activities to the Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Director. Supervise the Trauma Program Manager, Trauma Nurse Clinical Coordinator, and Trauma Nurse Registrar/Injury Prevention Coordinator. Develops and maintains systems to promote high levels of patient, employee and physician satisfaction; as well as external customer satisfaction. In a collaborative manner, the position is responsible for participation in the design, implementation, and evaluation of new programs, projects, and systems for the Trauma Program. Assumes 24 hour department accountability. Responsible for assuring adequate staffing and maintaining appropriate productivity standards. The trauma program director shall, at a minimum demonstrate the following qualifications: (1) Administrative ability, (2) Evidence of educational preparation, (3) Documented clinical experience, and (4) Accrue an average of 16 hours of verifiable, external trauma-related continuing education per year or 48 hours in the three years prior to the designation site review including no less than one national trauma meeting per three years, (5) Hold membership with national trauma organization and actively participate in regional trauma organizations.
