Women's Health Nurse Practitioner

Located in Eastern North Carolina in Craven County right in between the historical New Bern and the stunning beaches of the Crystal Coast, Havelock offers many things to its residents and visitors. Farther south, you can enjoy MCAS Cherry Point and the 157,000 acre Croatan National Forest, nationally recognized for its trails and recreation opportunities.

Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point
Often referred to as the "Gateway to Cherry Point, Havelock is home to Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point and the 15,500 sailors, Marines and civilians that work on base. A number of services are available to the military and their dependents, ranging from housing to recreational opportunities. Other facilities on the air station are designed to afford military personnel a wide variety of conveniences and recreation. The newly remodeled Marine Corps Exchange offers a department store, furniture store, grocery store, flower shop, liquor store and a number of small shops. There are also dry-cleaning and laundry facilities, a child-development center, a bank, a credit union and a service center with a convenience store, and a number of restaurants. Recreational facilities geared to Marines and their dependents include a large gymnasium, fitness center, three pools, a bowling center, a golf course, a boat ramp, a number of marinas and the base stables.

Requirements (duties include but are not limited to)
  • Provide a full range of nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the Commanding Officer (e.g., technically direct and provide general screening and medical care and examinations of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations; diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated).
  • Adhere to Guidelines for Nurse Practitioners (available from the COR upon request). This instruction includes the following requirements: permits nurse practitioner ordering and administration of an approved list of drugs according to protocol and requires random review of records of patients seen by the nurse practitioner.
  • Treat patients with common acute conditions, illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted protocols, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in collaboration with a physician.
  • Collaborate with the physician in the health care of patients with chronic illnesses.
  • Request consultation or referral with appropriate physicians, clinics, or other health resources as indicated.
  • Order diagnostic tests as applicable.
  • Prescribe and dispense medications as delineated by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
  • Promote preventive and health maintenance care, including annual physicals, positive health behaviors, and self-care skills through education and counseling.
  • Must have the following experience (or training as noted): outpatient Obstetrics & Gynecology; triage and care for patients in first trimester of pregnancy, including first trimester ultrasounds for viable pregnancy/and or bleeding; formal training and experience in abnormal pap smear management including colposcopy, endocervical curettage and biopsy of cervix, vagina, and perineum; and evaluation and management of abnormal gynecological conditions including bleeding, breast problems, uterine changes, osteoporosis.
  • Must be able to perform triage as indicated, function as a clinic provider performing assessment and evaluation of patients presenting to OB/GYN clinic, and function as a consultant covering acute referrals (obstetrical and gynecological) for patients who initially presented to other clinics at NHC Cherry Point.
Qualifications
  • Must be a graduate of a Masters of Nursing program accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
  • Must possess current certification (in the specialty corresponding to the specialty required by the task order) as a Nurse Practitioner by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
  • Must have a minimum of 1 year of full-time experience within the last 3 years as a Women's Health Nurse Practitioner.
  • Must possess and maintain a current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number (certificate) to prescribe controlled substances as listed in 21 C.F.R. 1308.
  • Possess current unrestricted license to practice in one of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, Guam, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.
  • Must have and maintain current certification in Basics Life Support (BLS) as certified by the American Heart Association.
