About the Area:

Houston, the nation’s fourth largest city, was named the “Best City in America” by Business Insider in 2013. It is a diverse, sophisticated locale offering a thriving cultural scene and is located less than an hour from the beaches of the Gulf. Your dollar goes further in Houston, Texas – according to the 2013 Cost of Living Index, Houston has the third lowest overall cost of living among the nation’s 20 most populous metropolitan areas.

There's a spectacular range of ethnic cuisines, fantastic seafood, and great barbecue. Houston has particularly excellent Vietnamese food due to a massive expatriate population, which was partially drawn by the large seafood industry. There's great Mexican food, and a strong Cajun presence due to the proximity of New Orleans and the many people who came after Katrina and stayed. And don't forget barbecue, because this is Texas after all, at places like Goode Company.

Houston has more parks than any other top-10 metropolitan area — with 50,632 acres in total. That puts it third in the U.S. in acreage per — capita behind only San Diego and Dallas
