Position Reports to Nursing Department Chair

The Director of the PMHNPC program will oversee the courses specific to the PMHNPC program. The Director of the PMHNPC program will have responsibility for the academic quality of the courses, including the integration, coordination, and tracking of content and activities that will ensure that students meet AACN and NONPF guidelines. The Director of the PMHNPC track will report directly to the Nursing Department Chair.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1.Student Instruction and Curriculum Management
a. Participate in PMHNPC program curriculum and course design, assessment, and evaluation
b. Participate in PMHNPC student admission, progression, and advisement activities.
c. Provide direct PMHNPC student instruction in program courses.
d. Participate in PMHNPC pre-admission activities including marketing, recruitment, and enrollment.
e. Lead instruction in didactic and clinical courses, using best practices in higher education and graduate nursing practice
f. Work closely with the Director of Clinical Education to ensure that student clinical placements meet state regulatory guidelines prior to student placements
g. Supervise the recording of student clinical hours throughout the PMHNPC program, in consultation with the Director of Clinical Education
h. Record and interpret course assessment information for all courses
i. Work closely with the Nursing Department Chair in both quality improvement initiatives and in university and program accreditation activities

2. Governance
a. Initiate, adopt, evaluate and advance the mission, goals and program outcomes of the University and the Nursing department
b. Work closely with the Nursing Department Chair in program assessment, marketing, and student recruitment/enrollment/retention activities
c. Evaluate and recommend faculty members for promotion
d. Participate in all regularly scheduled Nursing department meetings and other University events
e. Provide opportunity for students and peers to evaluate teaching effectiveness in program courses
f. Orient and mentor program faculty members to their teaching roles and responsibilities

3. Communication
a. Maintain optimal communication with the Nursing Department Chair, department faculty, student advisors, and students regarding PMHNPC track student progression

4. Scholarship and/or Practice
a. Engage in scholarly activities commensurate with appointment and rank
b. Maintain a clinical practice commensurate with licensure and appropriate for appointment and rank

5. Leadership and Service
a. Serve on program, university, state, and national committees that are appropriate for their rank and experience
b. Participate in professional and community activities for the purpose of bringing education, service, and research together for the improvement of health care delivery
c. Accept opportunities for membership on standing and ad-hoc committees of the program and University as elected or appointed

Skills

Education/Certification: Current unencumbered RN license, Current APRN certification, Earned doctoral degree

Required Knowledge: Demonstrate knowledge of legislative, regulatory, legal, and practice issues affecting contemporary graduate nursing education

Experience Required: Active in professional nursing organizations at local, state, and/or national levels (Preferred); Recent nursing teaching degree/certificate OR Minimum of 2 years of recent university-level teaching (Preferred); Two or more years of experience as an advanced practice registered nurse (Preferred); Administrative experience in academic governance and/or clinical practice; Consistent record of peer-reviewed presentations and publications (Preferred)

Skills/Abilities:  Able to work with students, faculty/staff with special needs based on the Americans with Disabilities Act; Demonstrated ability to design and conduct independent and/or collaborative research; Able to participate in all aspects of peer review and shared governance; Able to pass a criminal background search prior to commencement of employment; Strong leadership, communication, organization, interpersonal, problem-solving skills (Preferred); Able to work both independently and as an interdisciplinary team member (Preferred); Able to travel as needed (Preferred)
