The Mental Health Counselor (LGPC, LPC or LCSW) & Coordinator is a part-time position responsible for coordinating and providing mental health support for Generation Hope Scholars. The Mental Health Counselor & Coordinator will provide counseling to Scholars on an as-needed basis and will form relationships and partnerships with external providers and higher education mental health systems to ensure that Scholars are able to access a full-spectrum of mental health support. Responsibilities: Counseling Provide and document (in a confidential database) one-on-one therapeutic counseling to Generation Hope Scholars dealing with mental health challenges who are not able to access therapeutic counseling through other resources Implement mental health screenings for Scholars concerned about their mental health Make referrals to other organizations as available and needed Monitor and facilitate the non-crisis mental health text line 3 evenings per week Partnership Building
Research the mental health support available at local colleges and universities and form relationships with their counselors to ensure that referred Scholars are able to receive optimal support Form pro-bono partnerships with organizations and individuals that provide mental health care Facilitation Assist in providing staff training on mental health issues Assist in the facilitation of workshops and therapeutic groups for Scholars, their children, and Sponsors (i.e. mentors) Other Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies Create graphics and content for monthly wellness newsletter, etc. Send out email blasts and mass text messages about mental health programming to Generation Hope Scholars Create mental health social media content Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications: Maryland Licensure - LGPC, LPC or LCSW Unquestioned integrity and commitment to Generation Hope’s mission and values Experience working with underserved populations Availability some evenings and weekends to accommodate the needs of Scholars Access to a vehicle to meet Scholars within Maryland and the District of Columbia Ability to form relationships and partnerships to meet the mental health needs of Scholars Fantastic customer service ethic and high expectations for quality Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders Personal and professional commitment to understanding and dismantling systemic and institutional racism Preferred Qualifications: District of Columbia Licensure - LGPC, LPC, or LCSW Virginia Licensure - LGPC, LPC, or LCSW Experience working with teen parents and/or marginalized youth Spanish-speaking Experience working with children Experience facilitating or co-leading workshops/trainings
