The Office of Provider (OPA) advancement is tasked with supporting the recruitment, development, and retention of Clinical Leadership across OptumCare, as well as ensuring successful governance across OptumCare Clinical Entities. Provider retention includes an intense focus on: The provider experience; provider workflow; patient experience; and how these come together in the pursuit of the quadruple aim.

This role will also take accountability for OptumCare’s relationship with third party professional organizations, and help support the organizations long term research strategy.

 

OptumCare is a ~$20 billion a year organization, touching over 17 million patients, 80 payers and >40,000 providers.

 

The Senior National Medical Director, Office for Provider advancement will report to the OptumCare Chief Medical Officer and will be responsible for leading the overall OPA office. 

The key measure of success for this role will be maintenance of a provider recruitment pipeline with successful conversion; provider engagement; provider retention; and success of clinical governance.

The role will lead a team of 15+ individuals, interact closely with the broader clinical team(s), and will be responsible for their development and overall team structure/accountabilities.

 
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Partner with other executive leaders to deliver on an exceptional provider experience, strong provider retention, and provider development
  • Assure strong provider led governance across 20 local markets, and 40,000 providers
  • Develop and lead OptumCare’s strategy for engagement with third party healthcare professional societies and organizations
  • Provide executive leadership and support for enterprise wide initiatives including, but not limited to:
    • Provider engagement
    • Provider experience
    • Patient experience
    • Clinical Governance
    • Establishment and expansion of measured best practices, leveraging the value of OptumCare’s national scale where appropriate
  • Oversight of program monitoring and reporting, assessing the effectiveness of capabilities and deployment strategies across key constituents – care delivery organizations, primary care physicians, specialists and patients
  • Provide clinical direction, thought leadership and set the long-term strategic agenda for OptumCare.  Promote focused alignment around evolutionary concepts with near-term value and revolutionary concepts with market shaping potential.  Assure strategic direction is appropriately integrated into the broader OptumHealth agenda and consistent with mission and values of the company
  • Monitor overall qualitative and quantitative financial success of the OPA. Where actuals are not aligned with forecasts, take rapid action to revise strategies, tactics and interventions
  • Given the complex nature of OptumCare, the ability to achieve goals through a combination of direct and indirect influence will be critical
  • Lead through influence the medical leadership of varying businesses and their corresponding hierarchies across the country with expectations to grow over time
  • Direct the design and delivery of extremely complex business solutions within the Enterprise teams and across multiple cross-matrixed teams
  • Assist in increasing collaboration and driving results with the OptumCare Care Delivery Organizations
  • Support overall regional and corporate goals to ensure continued growth and profitability
  • Provide medical leadership for the Office of Provider Advancement  
  • Promote an environment of understanding of the market    nuances to drive cross functional team synergy
  • Build strong relationships and a broad knowledge base    across the UHG organization
  • Ensure compliance with all requirements (e.g., CMS,    NCQA, Health Plan, state)
