Medix is currently partnering with a premier healthcare facility located in Alabama to find a travel Psychiatrist to staff an opening at their facility starting in June 2026. In this role, you will work as part of an integrated team to provide high-quality care to our nation's veterans. As a Medix traveler, you will be supported by a team that prioritizes your career goals while you focus on delivering essential psychiatric services.The Psychiatrist is responsible for a comprehensive range of services, split between direct patient care (90%) and administrative/supervisory duties (10%). This role involves managing both inpatient and outpatient settings, ensuring veterans receive timely, evidence-based mental health treatment. The Details: --> Location: Montgomery, AL (Central Alabama Region) --> Facility Type: Veteran Healthcare System --> Start Date: June 2026 --> Length of Assignment: Ongoing / To be discussed --> Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (with rotating on-call) --> State License Needed: Any active U.S. State Medical License Responsibilities: --> Clinical Care: Manage inpatient ward patients (admissions, diagnosis, and treatment plans) and evaluate new outpatient referrals. --> Case Management: Conduct post-discharge follow-ups and ensure all medical record documentation is completed within VHA and TJC standards. --> Emergency Coverage: Provide phone consultations within 15 minutes and on-site response within 60 minutes for off-hours emergencies. --> Supervision & Education: Provide didactic teaching and clinical oversight for Health Professions Trainees (residents and interns). --> Quality Management: Participate in monthly prescriber meetings, peer reviews, and continuous quality improvement activities. --> Compliance: Maintain strict adherence to HIPAA and VA-specific confidentiality regulations.
Skills
Required Skills & Qualifications: --> Education: Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) from an accredited institution. --> Residency: Completion of an ACGME-accredited residency program in Psychiatry. --> Board Status: Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN). --> Licensure: A current, full, and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth. --> Certifications: Current BLS and ACLS certifications are required. --> DEA: Valid DEA registration for prescribing controlled substances. --> Technical Proficiency: Ability to use electronic health record systems (VistA/CPRS preferred).Preferred Qualifications: --> Prior experience within the VA system or working with veteran populations. --> Specialized training in PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma (MST), or Evidence-Based Practices (CPT, PE, or EMDR). --> Experience in Telehealth platforms and clinical medical education.
