The HSCS is comprised of nine psychiatric hospitals located throughout the state, and one youth residential psychiatric center in Waco. The HSCS is a hub of excellence for forensic mental health and complex psychiatric care, with all facilities accredited by The Joint Commission. The hospitals provide state-of-the-art treatment that is recovery-oriented and science-based. Whether in a direct-care or support role, your contribution will make a difference in the life of a Texan. Advanced Practice RN I performs highly advanced (senior-level) psychiatric and/or clinical nursing work. Work involves assessing, planning, and providing comprehensive psychiatric patient care independently or in collaboration with other healthcare professionals within the scope of the individual's privileges and delegation from the supervising physician. All essential job functions are performed under the supervision of a designated delegating facility physician. All essential job functions performed must follow the rules and regulations of the TX Board of Nursing and the TX Medical Board. May plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. This benchmark request was approved through the HHSC/DSHS action memo process.

Skills

1.  Experience in working with psychiatric patients. 2.  Knowledge of medications, including indications, dosage, side effects, drug-to-drug and food-to-drug interactions, and adverse effects. 3.  Knowledge of general nursing techniques, principles, and procedures. 4.  Knowledge of applicable laws and regulations. 5.  Ability to use personal computers and applicable software programs. 6.  Ability to use other recording and/or computing devices. 7.  Ability to work cohesively on a team to deliver quality health care. 8.  Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders including patients and staff. 9.  Ability to plan, assign, and/or supervise the work of others. 10. Ability to obtain and maintain privileges through the facility Medical Staff.

Notes

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
1.  Licensed to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner by the State of Texas or through reciprocity with certification as a Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) specialist by an approved certifying body.
Initial Selection Criteria:
1.  Licensed to practice as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner by the State of Texas or through reciprocity with certification as a Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) specialist by an approved certifying body. 2.  Experience treating forensic psychiatric patients in an inpatient setting.
