About the Position:

Provides nursing services in support of the Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) in its labor and delivery unit.

Position Duties and Responsibilities:
•  Perform and record skilled physical assessments of mother and newborn infant relating to pregnancy/ delivery process.
•  Perform emergency vaginal precipitous deliveries. Function as circulating nurse during operative deliveries.
•  Apply, operate, and accurately interpret fetal monitors for purposes of fetal assessments during non-stress tests, contraction stress and labor.
•  Operate complex monitoring and emergency resuscitation equipment.
•  Provide post anesthesia recovery and postoperative care for patients under regional and general anesthesia to include post-op cerclage and patient’s post-delivery.
•  Assist the physician during the labor and delivery process.
•  May be required to work on the Mother/Baby and Obstetrics/Gynecology Wards/Clinics.
•  Monitor and report changes in patient symptoms or behavior.
•  Educate patients about health maintenance and disease prevention.
•  Maintain accurate patient medical records.
•  Provide advice and emotional support to patients and their family members.
•  Other duties required per the task order.

Required Education and Certifications:
•  Bachelors or Associates Degree in Nursing.
•  A minimum of three (3) years of experience within the last four (4) years as a Labor and Delivery (L&D) Registered Nurse (RN).
•  Minimum of intermediate training in Fetal Heart Monitoring within the last two (2) years.
•  Must be licensed to perform nursing in one of the 50 states or territories.
•  Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
•  Possess and maintain certification in neonatal resuscitation provider (NRP).
•  Must be a US Citizen.
