Position Overview:

• Start Date: Mid-December 2024 (temporary privileges can be issued for a quick start)

  • Monday to Friday: 6:00 AM - 3:00 PM, with occasional weekday call from 3:00 PM - 6:00 AM
  
  
  • Weekend call rotation, with one provider on-call each weekend
  
  
  • Call ratio of 1:5

  • First Call: Home-based after cases are finished; may return for additional cases or central line procedures
  
  
  • Second Call: Backup for non-cardiac cases, with the possibility of staying late
  
  
  
  

Key Responsibilities:

• Supervise experienced CRNAs, with nearly 100% supervision required


• Provide anesthesia for various procedures, including:
  
  
  
  • General surgical cases (adult and pediatric)
  
  
  • Minor nerve blocks, regional and plexus anesthesia
  
  
  • Open-heart, thoracic, and complex vascular and orthopedic cases
  
  
  • Epidural, spinal, and neurosurgical anesthesia
  
  
  
  


• Perform pain management procedures for acute conditions


• Insert and manage central lines, arterial lines, and PA catheters


• Manage ventilation and acute volume/BP issues

Requirements:

• Board-certified in Anesthesiology


• Active Iowa license or IMLC eligibility (candidates without a current license will not be considered)


• Strong cardiac anesthesia experience, able to perform heart cases independently


• Availability for full-time coverage starting as soon as credentialed


• COVID vaccination status required at the time of submission

Additional Details:

• Practice Setting: Hospital-based, with a focus on surgical services in a Level 2 Trauma Center


• Team Structure: A group of 5 anesthesiologists when fully staffed, seeking 2 more due to retirements


• Operating Rooms: 12 ORs with an average of 13 surgical cases per day


• EMR: Cerner PowerChart


• Patient Demographic: Primarily adult/geriatric patients


• Credentialing Timeframe: Approximately 60 days
