What You’ll Do
- Provide PCU/stepdown-level nursing care for patients with CVA/TIA diagnoses
- Manage vital sign monitoring and hemodynamic support, including drip titration therapies
- Perform required neurologic care competencies with NIHSS experience
- Support critical care tasks as needed, including foley catheter management and enteral nutrition via NGT or PEG
- Manage common high-acuity needs including arterial lines and diabetes management
- Deliver medication management for infusion therapies as applicable (e.g., preferred Levophed, plus other common titratable meds per unit needs)
- Work collaboratively with the care team (charge nurse assigns based on staffing; hospitalist available 24/7)
What You Need
Required
- 2 years of RN experience in acute care
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- PCU/stepdown experience
- Ability to complete a required EKG competency exam prior to arrival as part of compliance
Preferred
- NIHSS experience
- Familiarity with vasoactive titration (e.g., Levophed preferred)
About the Assignment
Join a 6-bed PCU/stepdown setting caring for patients with CVA/TIA, with adequate PPE provided and an experienced inpatient team including RT (24/7), therapy support (OT/PT/ST), and VAT support for PICC/midline placement. The unit uses Meditech Expanse with Alaris IV pumps and Pyxis medication dispensing; floating to Medsurg/stepdown is expected frequently.
