What You’ll Do
- Perform gross examinations and dissection of large/complex surgical pathology specimens
- Handle small biopsy gross examination and dissection
- Prepare tissues for histological processing, including specimen fixation as needed
- Support specimen receipt and labeling, including accurate specimen handling
- Prepare and process tissue samples for microscopic evaluation
- Participate in tumor triage workflows based on clinical/patient information
- Perform adult and fetal autopsies as required by assignment
- Obtain and/or review relevant patient clinical information (e.g., scans/x-rays/lab results) to support workup
What You Need
Required
- ASCP – PA
- Minimum 3 years relevant experience
- Traveler experience required
- Experience in hospital clinical laboratory workflow and surgical pathology gross handling
- Ability to perform gross examination/dissection and support tissue preparation/histological processing
Preferred
- Specimen accessioning experience
- Ability to cut and stain frozen sections
- Experience with postmortem examinations
- Experience with removal of brain and spinal cord
- Gross/microscopic photography
- Master’s degree (preferred)
About the Assignment
This assignment is in a pathology-focused laboratory environment within a leading facility in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. You’ll work day shifts with a Monday–Friday schedule and complete hospital orientation in the first week (including required class availability each day during orientation).
