Job Description & Requirements

Physical Therapist - Outpatient - (PT)

StartDate: ASAP
Available Shifts: 8 D
Pay Rate: $2160.00 - $2225.00

This Select Physical Therapy PT position is based in the charming riverfront community of New Bern, North Carolina, a city that blends historic character with modern convenience. New Bern is known for its walkable downtown with beautifully preserved architecture, scenic waterfront parks, and a vibrant arts and cultural scene. Residents enjoy easy access to boating, kayaking, fishing, and year-round outdoor activities along the Neuse and Trent Rivers, as well as convenient day trips to the nearby Crystal Coast and Atlantic beaches. The community offers a welcoming, small-city feel with a lower cost of living than many urban markets, making it a great match for professionals seeking both career growth and quality of life.
Within this hospital-based environment, the Physical Therapist will provide comprehensive rehabilitation services to a diverse adult and geriatric caseload. You will evaluate patients, develop individualized plans of care, implement evidence-based interventions, and collaborate closely with physicians, nursing, case management, and other therapy disciplines. Clinical practice may include treating patients with orthopedic, neurological, cardiopulmonary, and post-surgical conditions, as well as those recovering from illness or injury in acute care, step-down, or post-acute settings. The role emphasizes functional mobility, restoration of independence, and safe discharge planning tailored to each patient’s goals and living situation.
A typical day involves performing thorough assessments, documenting findings and progress in the EMR, partnering with the care team on daily rounds or huddles, and providing ongoing patient and family education. You may assist in early mobility programs, fall prevention initiatives, and other facility-wide efforts to improve functional outcomes and reduce length of stay. Patient volumes and ratios are designed to allow for attentive, patient-centered care and appropriate time for documentation and collaboration. The environment supports best practices and encourages therapists to integrate the latest clinical guidelines and research into everyday practice.
Therapists in this setting benefit from a collegial, supportive culture that values interprofessional teamwork and open communication. Newer clinicians can expect guidance and mentoring, while more experienced therapists have opportunities to serve as leaders in clinical practice, process improvement, or program development. The rehabilitation area is equipped with modern therapy tools, modalities, and exercise equipment to support a broad range of treatment techniques. Opportunities may exist to participate in specialty programs, community outreach, or population health initiatives aligned with your clinical interests.
Shifts and scheduling are structured to meet patient care needs while maintaining work-life balance. Typical hours may include standard daytime shifts with the possibility of rotating weekends or holidays shared among the therapy team. This role is well-suited for therapists who value autonomy in practice, enjoy working in a hospital-based interdisciplinary environment, and are motivated by helping patients achieve meaningful functional goals.
