We are seeking a General Surgeon Physician for a 60-day assignment in New Mexico, starting Sep 14, 2026. This role involves nocturnist call coverage from 5:00 PM to 7:00 AM, Wednesday through Sunday, with additional full weekend coverage one to two times per month. The selected physician will manage emergency general surgery cases, acute surgical consults, and make independent surgical decisions, typically with low overnight volume.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Provide nocturnist call coverage and utilize the call apartment overnight.
• Carry a pager and respond as needed, managing a relatively low overnight volume (typically 0–4 ED consults/night and 0–1 overnight surgery/night).
• Return pages within 10 minutes and arrive within 30 minutes when called in.
• Cross-cover General Surgery inpatients.
• Admit new patients and take ED, outpatient clinic, and inpatient consults.
• Coordinate with referral centers and manage overnight surgical patients.
• Be comfortable with Emergency General Surgery, acute surgical consults, and emergency operative cases.
• Perform upper and lower endoscopy.
• Assist other surgical services when needed, including OB/GYN emergencies.
• Provide continuous call coverage every week Wednesday–Sunday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 AM.
• Provide 1–2 full weekends per month of continuous call coverage from Friday 5 PM through Monday 7 AM.

Additional Information

• Required Board Certifications: General Surgery
• EMR: RPMS
• Must be comfortable being the only General Surgeon overnight.
• Must be comfortable with phone triage and independent surgical decision-making.
• Must be comfortable with emergency operations, stabilization, and transfer decisions.
• Must be comfortable with endoscopy and cross-covering admitted patients.
