A correctional healthcare facility in Central Virginia is seeking a Board Certified or Board Eligible Primary Care Physician for a full-time locum tenens assignment. This opportunity offers a predictable weekday schedule with no call responsibilities while providing comprehensive primary care within a multidisciplinary correctional health team.

Assignment Details

• Setting: Correctional Facility


• Start Date: ASAP


• Contract: 3–6 months


• Credentialing: Approximately 3 weeks


• Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday (8:00 AM–5:00 PM) or four 10-hour shifts (6:00 AM–5:00 PM)


• Call: None


• EMR: Paper Charting and Cerner Millennium

Clinical Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary care services within a correctional healthcare setting


• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic medical conditions


• Develop and manage individualized treatment plans


• Prescribe medications and appropriate therapeutic interventions


• Perform routine physical examinations and preventive care


• Educate patients on disease prevention and chronic disease management


• Collaborate with nursing staff and advanced practice providers to coordinate care


• Maintain accurate medical documentation in the facility EMR

Requirements

• Board Certified or Board Eligible in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, or another primary care specialty with relevant experience


• Active Virginia medical license


• Current AHA BLS certification


• DEA registration


• Driver's license and Social Security card or passport required for credentialing


• Two physician references required
