What You’ll Do
- Provide high-quality emergency care to diverse patient populations, including pediatrics and geriatrics.
- Support patient assessment, stabilization, and treatment for conditions such as stroke, cardiac issues, diabetes, trauma, and infectious diseases.
- Perform advanced procedures like IV starts, NGT insertion, chest tube management, and defibrillation.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams including ED physicians, resource nurses, RT, and radiology staff.
- Document patient care accurately in Meditech Expanse EMR.
- Maintain compliance with all certifications and unit protocols.
- Support patient holding in the ED and hall bed assignments as needed.
What You Need
Required:
- Active RN license in Louisiana
- Minimum 2 years ER or acute care experience
- Current BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS or ENPC, CPI or MOAB certifications
- Ability to pass an EKG competency exam prior to arrival
- Skills in IV placement, chest tube management, stroke/Nihss assessments, ICU GTT management
Preferred:
- TNCC or related trauma certification
- Experience with Meditech EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication systems
About the Assignment
This assignment is at a well-equipped, acute stroke-ready hospital with 325 licensed beds, including a dedicated fast track area and specialized stroke and chest pain centers. The hospital supports a collaborative environment where nurses play a vital role in emergency care, working alongside a dedicated team of physicians, techs, and support staff. Expect a variety of shifts and occasional unit float to neighboring ERs, with orientation to ensure you are fully prepared.
