Clinical Responsibilities
Provide In-House Trauma Surgery Coverage
Evaluate and Manage Acute Trauma Patients
Provide Emergency General Surgery Services
Perform Emergency and Urgent Surgical Procedures
Provide Surgical Care in a Level II Trauma Center
Evaluate Patients Requiring Emergency Surgical Intervention
Manage Trauma and Emergency General Surgery Admissions
Provide Intensive Care Unit Coverage
Manage Critically Ill Surgical Patients
Perform Inpatient Rounds and Consultations
Provide Preoperative and Postoperative Surgical Care
Participate in Emergency General Surgery Backup Call Rotation
Provide Surgical and Outpatient Follow-Up Care
Participate in Rotating Clinic Coverage
Collaborate With Physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, and Multidisciplinary Clinical Teams
Document Patient Care in Epic

Board Certified - Required
Truly Board-Eligible Candidates May Be Considered
Critical Care Fellowship Training - Required
Active Iowa Medical License or Active IMLC Letter of Qualification - Required at Submission
At Least 2 Years of Clinical Experience in Trauma Surgery
Must Have Trauma Surgery Experience - Required
Emergency General Surgery Experience Alone Is Not Sufficient
Must Be Comfortable Providing Level II Trauma Coverage
Must Be Experienced in Surgical Critical Care
Must Be Comfortable Managing ICU Patients
Must Be Available for 12-Hour In-House Night Shifts
Must Be Comfortable With Emergency General Surgery Backup Call
Must Be Able to Perform Trauma and Emergency General Surgery Responsibilities
Clean Malpractice History - Required
Clean Background - Required
Must Complete Virtual Epic Training Before First Shift
