Standard Qualifications: Registered Nurse Freestanding Emergency Department The Town of Seabrook and Portsmouth Regional Hospital mutually committed to address the critical need for a convenient local healthcare access in the greater Seabrook community. As a department of Portsmouth Regional Hospital, the freestanding Seabrook ER will continue the hospital's tradition of quality patient-centered care for the communities it serves. As a part of the PRH family, the Seabrook ER staff will have the opportunity to work collaborative with our existing highly skilled Level II Trauma Center. We are excited to have this brand new, state of the art facility open. We are looking for highly motivated and passionate staff who strive to make a positive impact on the health of their community to join the Seabrook ER team. Free Standing Emergency Room, Seabrook, NH (part of Portsmouth Regional Hospital) POSITION SUMMARY: The RN demonstrates independence in planning, organizing, administering, and evaluating patient care in accordance with the NH Nurse Practice Act, recognized nursing techniques, clinical and administrative policies. Upon hire it will be determined and agreed upon by employee and director which area of Emergency Department the employee will be required to work: Fast Track/Minor Care Emergency Department Competency from infant (birth - 1 yr) through and including geriatric (65+) for general medical care, trauma and critical care) SPECIFIC ELEMENTS & ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: A. Fast Track/Minor Care (lower patient acuity) 1. Performs assessment /reassessment according to Emergency Department standards 2. Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed in the Emergency Department and associated nursing care 3. Recognize and respond to changes in a patient's condition 4. Demonstrates knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of system(s) being assessed based on chief complaint 5. Provide safe medication administration for the Emergency Department patient 6. Supports/assists Employee Health Immunization Program 7. Performs triage and interventions for employee illnesses/injuries according to standing orders for Employee Health 8. Demonstrates understanding o f internal/external customer, worker's compensation program per protocol, i.e., occurrence reports, drug screens, etc. 9. Initiates callbacks for high risk patients, follow up or changes in diagnosis/treatment per department standards 10. Manages department culture book, i.e. calling patients with results after discharge and coordinating any follow up with Emergency Department provider 11. Identifies high risk patients for discharge planning needs and implements per PRH policy 12. Initiates intervention for the aggressive/violent patient in accordance with CPI training 13. Supports department efforts to decrease ER wait times through Best Demonstrated Practice Guidelines 14. Verbalizes an understanding of Emergency Department metrics and role in providing customer excellence 15. Adheres to unit standards for documenting patient care 16. Completes annual competencies within appropriate timeframe 17. Consistently "Puts Patient Safety First" when performing job duties or providing care B. Emergency Department (higher patient acuity) 1. Performs assessment/reassessment according to department standards based on level of acuity 2. Demonstrates knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed in the Emergency Department and associated nursing care 3. Recognize and respond to changes in a patient's condition 4. Demonstrates knowledge of normal anatomy and physiology of system(s) being assessed based on chief complaint 5. Provide safe medication administration for the Emergency Department patient 6. Identifies high risk patients for discharge planning needs and implements per PRH policy 7. Initiates intervention for the aggressive/violent patient in accordance with CPI training 8. Supports department efforts to decrease wait times through Best Demonstrated Practice Guidelines 9. Recognizes life threatening arrhythmia's and initiates appropriate treatment 10. Interprets hemodynamic data accurately and initiates care which is appropriate to patient's condition 11. Initiates standard Emergency Department protocols in collaboration with provider (MD, DO, PA, NP) i.e., chest pain, stroke, asthma, etc. 12. Prepares and administers medications for Rapid Sequence Intubation 13. Completes appropriate documentation for: a. Transfers to include adherence with EMTALA b. Patients leaving against medical advice (AMA) c. Patients leaving prior to medical screening (LPME) 14. Successfully assumes resource nurse responsibility upon completion of orientation into this role to include: a. Assigns work considering individual staff competencies b. Patient needs including changes in acuity level c. Coordinates unit activities d. Anticipates staffing requirements e. Delegates appropriately 15. Verbalizes an understanding of Emergency Department metrics and role in providing customer excellence 16. Adheres to unit standards for documenting patient care 17. Completes annual competencies within appropriate timeframe 18. Consistently "Puts Patient Safety First" when performing job duties or providing care
