The nurse is an integral part of the imaging /radiology team. The major goal of the radiology nurse is to provide quality nursing care to inpatients and out patients in the Medical Imaging Department. The radiology nurse cares for patients across the lifespan. The radiology nurse is qualified and prepared to handle all unexpected emergencies that occur during any imaging/interventional procedures. Areas where the nurse may function are as follows: general diagnostic, interventional/ therapeutic procedures, nuclear medicine, ultrasound, computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, breast imaging. The overall goal of the radiology nurse is to provide the highest quality nursing care. Under the general supervision of a physician and/or a radiologist, the incumbent is responsible for assessing the nursing needs and initiating appropriate intervention for patients in the medical imaging department, according to nursing and medical imaging department philosophy, goals, policies and procedures. Proper nursing standards are to be practiced as well as assist in the education program for staffing needs. Job may include direct supervision of students at the discretion of the area supervisor. Employee must have the same licensure or have completed the same training to satisfy the requirements of the discipline of the student. Direct supervision means the primary caregiver is readily available to the student throughout the shift.
