The charge nurse assumes responsibility for c oo r d i n a ti ng s a f e , e ff i c i e n t , a n d t h e r a p e u t i c a l l y e ff ec ti v e nu r s i ng ca r e f or p a t i e n t s on t he a ss i gn e d un i t/ d e p a r t m e n t . P r i n c i p l e r e s po n s i b ili t i e s i n c l u de p a r t i c i p a t i ng i n s t r a t e g i c p l a nn i n g , s e r v i c e delivery, program development, evaluation and implementation, budget and resource m a n a g e m e n t , c o s t c o n t r o l , c o n t r ac t c o m p li a n c e a n d q u a li t y im p r o v e m e n t . I n a dd i t i o n , t h e c h a r g e nu r s e s u ppo r t s p a t i e n t s a f e t y i n i t i a t i v e s a n d q u a li t y im p r o v e m e n t ac t i v i t i e s .  The charge nurse may also work as a registered professional nurse in the capacity of house s u p e r v i s or i n a dd i t i on t o b e i n g a c li n i c a l nu r s e p r o v i d i ng ca r e f or p a t i e n t s f or a n a ss i gn e d t im e .  T h e c h a r g e nu r s e m a i n t a i n s c u rr e n t c o m p e t e n c y w i t h nu r s i ng s k ill s r e q u i r e d f or t h e a ss i gn e d unit/department, and demonstrates knowledge regarding Standards of Care and Standards of P r ac t i c e i n t h e a ss i gn e d a r ea . T h e c h a r g e nu r s e p e r f o r m s a nnu a l p e r f o r m a n c e r e v i e w s a n d a ss i s t s s t a f f i n c o m p l e t i o n of t h e i r g o a l s a n d d e v e l op m e nt p l a n .      Duties (included but not limited to):   M u s t a d h e r e t o E M T A L A r e q u i r e m e n t s M u s t be c o m p li a n t w i t h H I P A A po li c i e s a n d p r o ce d u r e s Must have organizational and prioritization skills and be committed to facilitating patient flow Must work autonomously with the Emergency Department physicians Must keep the admit log, transfer log, legal 2000 log, and restraint log current Must attend daily bed board meetings, adjust next shift staffing, and flex staff every 4 hours according to census and department needs M u s t c o m p l y w i t h s t a t e m a n d a t e d r e gu l a t i o n s a n d k ee p t h e R O A M I T c o m p u t e r c u rr e n t Must demonstrate rapport with EMS and keep the EMS computer current with number of legal 2000s and estimated offload times M u s t be f a m il i a r w i t h I n t e r Q u a l C r i t e r i a f or a d mi tti ng p a t i e n t s t o t h e a pp r op r i a t e l e v e l of care and have knowled
