Standard Qualifications: Coliseum Medical Centers is a 310 bed facility offering a 24-hour emergency room with specialized pediatric care, inpatient and outpatient surgery options, rehabilitation programs, behavioral health and diagnostic services. In addition, CMC's breadth of care options includes specialty facilities such as the Coliseum Heart Institute, an advanced cardiac center offering all services from non-invasive cardiology to open heart surgery, Coliseum Rehabilitation Center, Coliseum Robotics Institute, Coliseum Cancer Institute, and the Family Ties Birthing Center (which includes a level III neonatal nursery). Additionally, the Coliseum Center for Behavioral Health, located on the campus of Coliseum Medical Centers, provides treatment to adults with psychiatric and addiction issues. The services provided include inpatient and outpatient programs, as well as a specialty program for senior adults. We are looking for a new Cardiovascular PA, to a ssist in the Operating Room providing surgical assistance to physicians and patients within the PA scope of practice. Collaborates with all members of the health care delivery team to provide quality health care. Will assist other surgeons in the OR when there are no cardiovascular cases. Will function as a member of the CMC Surgical Team attending staff meetings, morning huddle, CVOR PI/Volume building meetings and other informational sessions. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Confirms procedure with surgeon and determines specific equipment needed per procedure and participates in TimeOut. 2. Reviews permit to confirm procedure and any special needs and participates in "time out" sessions prior to surgery. 3. Selects and places x-rays for reference. 4. Assists in moving and positioning of patient. 5. Inserts and removes Foley urinary bladder catheter as needed. 6. Correctly places pneumatic tourniquet. 7. Drapes patient within surgeon's guidelines. 8. Provides retraction of tissue and organs for optimal visualization with regard to tissue type and appropriate retraction instrument and/or technique. 9. Assists in maintaining hemostasis by direct pressure, use of appropriate surgical instrument for the task, placement of ties, placement of suture ligatures, application of chemical hemostatic agents, or other measures as directed by the surgeon. 10. Uses electrocautery, mono-and bi-polar effectively and without letting the patient receive any burns. 11. Clamps, ligates and cuts tissue per surgeon's directive, giving care to not damage surgical instruments. 12. Harvests saphenous vein and radial artery, including skin incision, per surgeon's directive. 13. Dissects common femoral artery and bifurcation per surgeon's directive. 14. Maintains integrity of sterile field. 15. Close all layers of the wound (fascia, subcutaneous & skin or the equivalent tissue layers) as per surgeon's directive. 16. Inserts of drainage tubes per surgeon's directive. 17. Selects and applies wound dressings according to surgeon's preference. 18. Participates and cooperates in the unit-based Quality Improvement processes. 19. Supports, maintains and provides an environment which is supportive of quality patient care through effective use of resources and personnel. 20. Practices, develops and endorses customer service skills in relationships with internal and external customers. 21. Serves as the patient and family advocate with respect to the patient's right to privacy by protecting confidential information. 22. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues. 23. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm. 24. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety. 25. Demonstrates ability to perform CPR. 26. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements. 27. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered. 28. Regular, punctual and dependable attendance. 29. Other duties as assigned.
