The Surgical Services Manager is a registered professional nurse who participates as an administrative member of the nursing management team. The Surgical Services Manager assumes the 24-hour responsibility and direction of coordinating safe, efficient and therapeutically effective nursing care for patients on the assigned unit/departments. Maintains current competency with the nursing skills required for the assigned unit/departments. Demonstrates knowledge regarding Standards of Care and Standards of Practice in the area assigned. Maintains professional and effective working relationships with all members of the health care team. Demonstrates knowledge of principles, growth and development over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret appropriate information needed to identify patient requirements relative to his/her age specific needs. Maintains calmness in high stress situations and directs staff members appropriately. SUPERVISION: The Surgical Services Manager reports to the Director of Surgical Services. DIRECT REPORTS Direct reports will include Charge Nurses, Surgery and Endoscopy employees. TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties and responsibilities listed herein are not intended to be all inclusive but rather to indicate the primary emphasis of the job and establish the parameters for the necessary skill, effort, responsibility and working conditions that make up the job. · Stewardship of Resources · Financial Management · Information Management · Service Excellence · Inter-Departmental Relationships · Environment of Care · Leadership - Plans, Directs, and Integrates · Professional Development · Risk Management · Unit Specific INCUMBENT IS PERSONALLY RESPONSIBLE TO: · Analyze and report financial data in all areas of responsibility. · Ensure resources in departments are utilized efficiently and effectively. · Comply with and actively support HCA and hospital compliance and ethics programs and activities · Comply with and actively support patient safety initiatives · Perform duties and responsibilities of all lesser included jobs · Perform other duties as assigned CONTACTS: · This position will frequently be providing information to department management, physicians and other medical staff pertaining to the operations of responsible departments. · The incumbent will continually interact with department heads outside functional area to ensure patients presenting through the surgical services are provided quality patient care. · This position will continually interact with patients and their families regarding patient care received in areas of responsibility.
