Standard Qualifications:   POSITION SUMMARY:  The Medical Technologist Section Coordinator performs all approved laboratory procedures in assigned areas of licensure. The position requires exercise of independent judgment under minimum or moderate degree of supervision. The work customarily involves any testing which may require a high degree of theoretical knowledge and technical expertise in licensed areas.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  1. Maintains confidentiality of all Protected Health Information.  2. Evaluates new laboratory methods.  3. Coordinates Technologists/technicians' schedules as required.  4. Monitors performance of all assays in designated section.  5. Ensures compliance with CAP, CLIA, State and other regulatory requirements.  6. Writes and revises policies and procedures as needed.  7. Ensures that required documentation is performed.  8. Instructs and councils Medical Technologists/technicians in performance of technical duties.  9. Assists Director with annual evaluations of Medical Technologists/technicians.  10. Trains new Medical Technologists/Technicians and Med Tech Section Coordinators.  11. Coordinates and performs initial and annual competency validation for Medical Technologists/Technicians.  12. Assists in coordination of phlebotomy staffing as needed.  13. Delegates tasks to Medical Technologists/Technicians and Department Secretary as needed.  14. Follows established policies and procedures and fulfills regulatory requirements at all times.  15. Evaluates specimen integrity and identification prior to performing testing.  16. Accurately performs laboratory testing within specified turn-around-time requirements.  17. Actively and quickly investigates specimen problems and takes all steps necessary to resolve.  18. Performs all maintenance, quality control, corrective action and calibration procedures as required.  19. Performs analyzer troubleshooting procedures as required.  20. Reports critical test results within 30 minutes of completion, requests verbal read back and documents same.  21. Reports reference laboratory tests within specified time frames.  22. Monitors Tracker and investigates and resolves delays.  23. Carefully reviews and signs policies/procedures within specified time limits.  24. Assists Section Coordinator with evaluation of new methods, lot crossovers, and other projects as requested.  25. Maintains adequate inventory of reagents and supplies.  26. Ensures continuation of care across shifts by providing and receiving shift report at each shift change.  27. Provides technical guidance to phlebotomists, nurses and physicians.  28. Communicates technical and procedural problems to Director, Emergency Department and/or House Supervisor as needed.  29. Answers phone and assists customers in a courteous and professional manner at all times.  30. Performs all required documentation.  31. Maintains a clean and organized work space.  32. Assists with specimen processing when needed.  33. Performs clerical duties as needed.  34. Fosters teamwork through participation in department activities and committees.  35. Actively seeks to improve knowledge, skills and abilities.  36. Actively seeks ways to control costs without compromising patient safety, quality of care or the services delivered.  37. Demonstrates knowledge of the occurrence reporting system. Uses system to report potential patient safety issues.  38. Follows established guidelines for reporting a significant medical error or unanticipated outcome in the patient's care which results in patient harm.  39. Attends in-service presentations and completes all mandatory education requirements.  40. Uses Performance Improvement Plan to improve patient safety.  41. Regular, punctual and dependable attendance.  42. Answers pneumatic tube & distributes specimens to proper area.  43. Other duties as assigned.   PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:     A.
