Magnet Pathways designated Malcolm Baldrige award recipient 100 Top Hospitals, Thomson Reuters (2012) Texas Ten Step Facility ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES : Ensures daily unit operations in collaboration with SNU/CN Supports the philosophy and mission, vision, and values of St. David's Healthcare Partnership through a positive interaction with staff, physicians, patients, and families. Interprets hospital and personnel policies to physicians, nursing staff, patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel. Reviews patient and employee incident reports, OSHA forms, and related paperwork within 24 hours of incident and monitors trends. Assists with bed control. Maintains complete staff/patient assignment records 100% of the time. Assures staffing guidelines are met. Participates in quality improvement activities every month. Collaborates with Director and Nursing schools to provide student/preceptee and preceptor assignments and learning opportunities Facilitates cohesiveness of the patient care team. Assists the Director with the development and monitoring of the community budget, policies and procedures and regulatory requirements. Manages unit personnel activities. Ensures completion of daily staffing sheets. Collaborates with Director and Nursing Supervisors to plan staffing. Sets priorities for the unit coaching the team to ensure successful completion of tasks. Oversees compliance with hospital policies, regulatory standards, employee health policies as well as all other policies relative to the unit. Develops/approves unit schedules according to staffing guidelines. Coordinates employees' attendance at scheduled/required education programs. Plans activities to ensure competency of staff with ongoing staff development for assigned unit. Conducts employee evaluations and counseling in a timely manner. Actively promotes positive intra-and interdepartmental activities of the unit. Serves as a resource to the patient care team on clinical issues, facility policies, and the use of hospital equipment. Coordinates intra-facility and inter-facility transfers to patients. Exercises appropriate independent judgment. Performs efficiently in an emergency. Gives concise report to on-coming charge nurse, including responses to intervention, pending testing, diagnostic result, and areas requiring follow-up. Facilitates interdisciplinary discharge planning by identifying needs, assisting with discharge teaching, and coordinating the activities of other services. Assists in conducting monthly unit conferences to enhance team building and provide information to the team. Ensures that patient needs are met in a competent and timely manner. Reviews trends determined through audits conducted by committee staff. Collaborates with other health care professionals regarding unusual situations, and seeks assistance as indicated. Evaluates care plans for initiation, individualization, and daily updates. Assists in delivering direct patient care, and carry a patient assignment, as needed. Assures nursing interventions are performed and recorded, according to policies and procedures. Ensures compliance with infection control policies.
