Standard Qualifications: The L&D RN provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. The tasks and responsibilities include : 1. Performs maternal assessments and provides appropriate interventions for patients who range in age from menses to menopause. 2. Performs fetal assessments and provides appropriate interventions. 3. Uses appropriate interventions for OB pain management. Performs and monitors OB anesthesia/analgesia and provides appropriate interventions. 4. Communicates effectively with all members of health care team utilizing verbal and written skills. 5. Responds to acute changes in unit and patient conditions. 6. Demonstrates support of Lactation Services 7. Initiates and documents patient teaching including family and/or significant others 8. Performs Labor and Delivery surgical procedures. 9. Medications are administered according to hospital policy. Demonstrates Professionalism, Accountability and Commitment to Nursing Care in Labor and Delivery
