Standard Qualifications:   We are seeking a Manager of Neurosciences at Johnston-Willis Hospital.  Neurosciences at Johnston-Willis Hospital consists of two units where our new nurses begin their professional growth on our Neuroscience Stepdown Unit and are able to seamlessly transition to our Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU).  The Neuroscience Stepdown Unit consists of 23 private rooms, including 2 rooms that are 24/7 Epilepsy-Monitoring Capable. All 23 rooms are equipped for telemetry monitoring. We serve adult and geriatric patients whose primary diagnosis is of a neurological and/or neurosurgical nature, often transferred from the Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit as well as the Medical Surgical Intensive Care Unit. Patient nurse ratio is 4-5:1 on the unit.  The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit, opened in 2011, consists of 12 private rooms. These rooms includes state-of-the-art equipment where we use cutting-edge technology and the most current advances/changes in healthcare management for the most critical patients. Patient nurse ratio is 2:1 on the unit.  We are the first non-academic Comprehensive Stroke Center in Virginia, and the first Brain Tumor Joint Commission Certified Site in the nation. We offer innovative neurologic services and technological capabilities, including Neuro Interventional Endovascular Stroke Rescue and Gamma Knife Services.  At Johnston-Willis Hospital, we have been delivering top quality healthcare to Greater Richmond and the Tri-Cities area for more than 100 years, which means our patients can depend on our experience to provide the exceptional care they need. Our 292-bed hospital offers a full range of healthcare services, with specialties in addition to Neuroscience, such as Inpatient Rehabilitation, Cancer Care, our state-authorized level III trauma center ER, and the first-in-Richmond Gamma Knife Center.  Specific elements and essential functions of the Manager of Neurosciences are listed below; those functions with an (*) are essential functions considered necessary to accomplish this job.  *1. Manages the fiscal and clinical operations of assigned area(s) of responsibility and recommends sufficient number of qualified competent persons to provide care. Participates in outside source selection for needed services.  *2. Integrates department services with the hospitals primary function maintaining communication with medical and nursing staffs, Administration, patients and their families/significant other. Coordinates and integrates services within departments.  *3. Assists in development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support provision of services. Supervises nursing staff and assures staff competency.  *4. Conducts ongoing assessment and improvement of the department's performance. Promotes the Quality Management program of the facility maintaining appropriate quality control programs (where applicable).  5. Assists the Director to develop, markets, implements, and evaluates new services and programs recommending space and resources needed. Participates in outside source selection for needed services.  *6. Ensures compliance with regulatory agencies.  *7. Develops goals and objectives for assigned area(s) of responsibility and participates in development of goals and objectives for the Nursing Department.  *8. Provides for orientation, inservice training, and continuing education for persons in the department.  9. Assumes the duties of the Administrative Nursing Supervisor as assigned.
