Standard Qualifications: FACILITY SUMMARY: Del Sol Medical Center is a Level II Trauma, 347 bed acute care TJC accredited hospital. Within our hospital campus, we also house an Inpatient, CARF accredited Rehabilitation Hospital. We are located on the Eastside of El Paso, Texas right off of Interstate 10. We provide exceptional patient care services to the El Paso and Fort Bliss communities, as well as Southern New Mexico and West Texas Regions. POSITION SUMMARY: To provide patient care under the direction of the RN, using the nursing process, in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of Del Sol Medical Center. The scrub surgical technologist handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/She has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and in constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field. POPULATION SERVED: Neonate to geriatrics ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures Scrubs, gowns and loves Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and solutions needed for procedure Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation and before incision is closed Gowns and gloves surgeons and assistants Helps in draping sterile field Passes instruments, etc. to surgeon during procedure Maintains highest standard of sterile technique during procedure Prepares sterile dressings Cleans and prepares instruments for sterilization Assists other members of team with terminal cleaning of rooms Assists in prepping room for next patient Assists patients with personal care, activities of daily living, and assists with transfer of patients Cleans and stocks patient rooms Communicates, interacts and participates in teamwork on the unit. Practices, endorses and provides customer service skills to patients, visitors, physicians and staff. Demonstrates knowledge and respect of the patients' right to privacy and protection of patient confidentiality. Communicates and participates in patient care activities in direct conjunction with the Registered Nurse. The second assisting surgical technologis t assists the surgeon and/or first assistant by performing technical tasks other than cutting, clamping, and suturing. May include: apply dressing to the closed wound, connect drains to suction apparatus, cut suture material, hold retractors or instruments as directed by the surgeon, sponge or suction operative site. Other duties as assigned.
