Standard Qualifications: Position Description: The Cath Lab Technologist performs specified exams to acquire diagnostic x-ray results for interpretation and diagnosis. Delivers comprehensive patient care in accordance with individual patient needs: Promotes an environment of safety for the patient and co-workers and physicians. Provides guidance and assistance to other Cath Lab personnel. Accepts other duties that relate to patient care and to facilitate the Cath Lab schedule. Gathers and calculates data which will aid the physician in making diagnosis. Assists physicians with all invasive procedures with appropriate sterile technique. Assumes Charge responsibility when necessary. Act as a patient advocate within the hospital environment Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Demonstrates knowledge in the maintenance and use of the crash cart. Is familiar with the location of drugs, supplies and equipment on the cart. Demonstrates knowledge and skill in the assembly and operation of all crash cart equipment (defibrillator, EKG monitor, ambu bags, laryngoscope, etc.) In actual cardiac/respiratory arrest/code situations, demonstrates ability to perform basic life support and code procedures as described in hospital policy. Responds quickly and in a calm effective manner. Gathers and calculates quantitative and qualitative data which will aid the physician in making a diagnosis. Computes valve areas, AV02 difference, 02 content, cardiac output, EF, and other data appropriate for procedures performed in the Cath Lab. Checks, cleans and tests equipment. Demonstrates knowledge of basic aseptic techniques as described in policy 765-036. Follows this policy while assisting the physician during procedures. Handles sterile equipment to prevent cross, contamination and monitors use of reusable supplies and observes sterile fields.
