Standard Qualifications: We are seeking a Labor and Delivery (L&D) Operating Room (OR) Technician to join the Women's Services team at Chippenham Hospital. The Labor and Deliver Unit at Chippenham Hospital includes 12 Labor, Delivery, Recovery (LDR) suites, 2 triage rooms, and an Operating Room (OR) suite. We see a diverse population of patients from all over the greater Richmond area in our fast-paced LDR, where we deliver on average 1,100 to 1,200 babies each year. In addition to the LDR rooms, we have 14 private postpartum rooms and a well-baby nursery. For high-risk pregnancies and childbirths, we maintain a 15-bed Level III neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), intermediate care nursery, and 24/7 neonatologist coverage. As one of the largest facilities in HCA which is the nation's largest hospital system, Chippenham Hospital provides the full scope of healthcare services. With 466 beds, we specialize in heart care at the Levinson Heart Hospital and emotional and mental health services through the Tucker Pavilion. Our Emergency Room (ER) is also a state-authorized Level II trauma center and we offer Central Virginia's only Pediatric ER staffed 24/7 by pediatric-trained ER nurse and physician specialists. Specific elements of the Labor and Delivery OR Technician's position include the following: The L&D OR Technician assists with the nursing care of patients under the supervision of an OR Registered Nurse. The L&D OR Technician functions as a sterile scrub person caring for patients undergoing surgery within the OR suite. The L&D OR Technician sets up the sterile surgical field using aseptic technique, utilizing knowledge of: Human Anatomy and Physiology and the physician's preferences for surgical instrumentation, suturing, passing, dissecting, retracting, and closing of surgical wounds. The L&D OR Technician assists the circulating Registered Nurse with operating room set up, equipment, and positioning of the surgical patient. The L&D OR Technician follows AORN Preoperative Standards and Recommended Practices and the HCA ethical and compliance principles and values. Patient Rights: The L&D OR Technician works to support and protect the rights of each patient served, treats each patient with dignity and care, and maintains patient confidentiality/privacy. Patient Safety: The L&D OR Technician demonstrates commitment to patient safety initiatives including patient falls, medication safety, National Patient Safety Goals, critical value reporting, and administration of blood products.
