Standard Qualifications: Specialty Hospital is a long-term acute care hospital (LTACH) specializing in the treatment of seriously ill, medically complex patients that require hospitalization for longer periods of time, with an average stay of 3-4 weeks. This provides necessary time to focus on a patient's recovery to their fullest potential, and is one of the factors that distinguish Specialty Hospital from short acute care hospitals. This fully-licensed and accredited hospital is the only one of its kind in Jacksonville, and one of approximately 460 such hospitals nationwide. Specialty Hospital offers specialized, interdisciplinary, compassionate programs in a medical environment that integrates healing and recovery through four main programs of excellence: Cardiopulmonary Program - ventilator and/or tracheostomy weaning and complications of chronic lung disease; Wound Management Program - decubitus, circulatory, and diabetic ulcers, and non-healing surgical wounds; Infectious Disease Program - treatment of multiple infectious disease processes; and Complex Medical/Rehabilitative Program - provide intensive medical management. We are seeking a new Director of Clinical Education, responsible for the delivery of high quality educational programs and activities that promote individual development of clinical staff. These educational programs and activities are based on the learning needs of the staff to facilitate quality patient care in the hospital. The learning needs of the staff are identified through collaboration with management and staff input into identifying educational needs. The quality of education given to the staff will be in keeping with the philosophy and objectives of the hospital and will maintain and support the standards of care and practices in order to meet the health care needs of patients, their families and the community. The Director of Education will effectively promote a positive interdisciplinary approach to interacting and communicating with all customers both internally and externally in the community. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Job Knowledge and Role Responsibilities 1. Demonstrates knowledge of Standard Based documentation including Routine Care interventions and appropriate documentation. 2. Develops lectures via classroom & Healthstream courses for all disciplines 3. Provides certification classes in ETLA, BLS, ACLS, Code of conduct to all staff 4. Develops and presents new employee orientation program and GN program 5. Mentors and trains staff to assume responsibilities of specific role and position 6. Plans and teaches curriculum based on the learning needs of the staff. 7. Develops creative teaching methodologies and projects a positive classroom learning environment 8. Develops and utilizes appropriate evaluative systems to determine effectiveness of education activities Patient Assessment 1. Utilizes advanced physical and psychological assessment skills to identify actual nursing diagnosis/clinical problems based on assessment of patient & unique age-specific needs 2. Assists new nurses in clinical assessments and documentation 3. Assesses clinical staff and provides educational in-services based on the needs determined 4. Facilitates initiatives to promote quality patient education in-services. Information Management 1. Uses and maintains AV equipment according to SH policies 2. Follows security for computer access and information management 3. Monitors and records all staff educational data following SH policies 4. Participates in quality improvement through data collection #LI-SAD
