Standard Qualifications: POSITION SUMMARY This individual is responsible for managing and coordinating applicable staff in Transplant Finance and medical management to ensure maximization of financial reimbursement by ensuring financial liabilities are identified and adequate insurance benefits or funding arrangements are in place prior to transplantation and other services. Acts as a resource to the Medical Director and BMT transplant team, in addition to Admitting and System Finance offices of transplant facilities in the St. David's South Austin Medical Center. In addition, he/she will manage human resources at the Department level for assigned personnel. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee and Manage Transplant Financial Coordinators for St David's South Austin Transplant Program, whose responsibilities include, but are not limited to, reviewing and altering processes for ultimate outcomes, completely and accurately. Reviews all transplant benefits and approvals on patients presenting for transplant services at St David's South Austin Medical Center. Develop and maintain processes and procedures related to transplant clearance and the role of the Financial Coordinators and Authorization personnel to afford maximum reimbursement. Act as being the financial liaison between the Transplant inpatient and outpatient clinic with the patient/family. Maintain the knowledge and compliance with established policies and procedures including government, commercial insurance, and third party payor regulations. Monitor daily operating activities of department and make necessary adjustments in work assignments including personally performing duties of patient clearance along with assigned staff. Manage train, orient and evaluate performance over assigned personnel. Recommend promotions and disciplinary actions, and motivate employees to achieve peak performance. Daily review to ensure payroll is accurate, benefits are managed according to employee eligibility and elections. Ensure all personnel files are maintained and updated annually. Support the Chief Finance Officer as needed with regard to transplant cases under financial review. The Financial Manager works with the Clinical Director, Medical Director, and coordinators of the Blood and Marrow Transplant program to enable patients to undergo transplantation. Additional Job Functions Have achieved considerable knowledge of insurance companies operating procedures; knowledge of patient account services, and knowledge of effective supervisory and management techniques. Requires advanced knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets and databases; keeping up with current developments and trends in areas of expertise. Understands and is committed to helping the St. David's South Austin Medical Center and its associated facilities achieve its goals under the St. David's Financial Performance Plan. The job responsibilities of this position may include cross training in other functions or positions to ensure satisfactory operation of the department/work unit or to permit flexible staffing assignments. Must learn and comply with System and facility safety policies and rules; must use appropriate safety equipment and procedures at all times; must immediately report all unsafe conditions to managers; must be familiar with all safety features of equipment, tools or materials encompassed by job duties; and must check with supervisors (prior to job performance) if there is a question as to the safe procedure to be used for any job function. Educates patients, their families to assist understanding of financial implication and responsibilities surrounding pre- and post-transplant issues. Acts as a resource for members of the interdisciplinary team on transplant care, and medical management care, and protocols to promote positive outcomes for all patients. Communicates with interdisciplinary team members, patients and families, and payors in a timely manner and ensure comprehensive documentation. Acts as an advocate for patient's benefits. Reviews outpatient drug benefits. Investigates formulary and obtains overrides if needed. Identifies need for indigent drug program and coordinates the application process. Keeps current on requirements mandated by The Joint Commission, Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other regulatory bodies, monitors compliance. Supports the mission and vision of St. David's Healthcare and demonstrates excellent customer service at all times.
