Our mission is to effectively meet the needs of the communities we serve through a continuum of quality healthcare in a compassionate environment of mutual trust and respect. 340 NW Commerce Drive Lake City, FL 32055 POSITION SUMMARY: The Radiation Therapist functions as an integral member of the radiation oncology team. The team provides patient care and supportive services that are directed towards achievement of patient care outcomes through the integrated skills of all team members in the department. The Radiation Therapist, as a member of the team, is responsible for the accurate delivery of prescribed planned course of Radiation Therapy to patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology. Responsible for treatment delivery and maintenance of prescribed standards. Monitors patients for unusual reactions and events. Observes Radiation Safety measures for patients and personnel. Responsible for other related duties as required. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Duties include but are not limited to: - Demonstrates responsibility and accountability in the performance of treatment, reassessment, development and implementation of the patient's prescription/orders in accordance with the department standards and policies and as prescribed by the physician. - Displays professional conduct essential to the well-being of the radiation oncology patient. - Demonstrates knowledge of the specific conditions, diseases, and treatment therapies for the specific patient population of the department. - Recognizes and reports changes in patient's status and condition and reports to appropriate personnel. - Continuously prioritizes patient needs and nursing problems based on observations and data collection. - Demonstrates effective written communication skills; Maintains accurate and detailed treatment chart documentation. - Demonstrates effective verbal communication skills in the clinical setting. - Observes the clinical progress of the radiation oncology patient, uses clinical decision making skills to recognize and report any signs of complications. - Utilizes treatment accessories to accurately reproduce the radiation treatment. - Adheres to radiation safety procedure protocol. - Safely and effectively operates a variety of computerized simulation and treatment machines. - Ensures that all QA procedures are complete before proceeding with patient treatment as outlined in department policies and procedures. - Performs machine safety checks; knows safe limits of equipment operations, and reports abnormalities or inconsistencies to the proper authority. - Constructs immobilization devices and employs custom blocking techniques that are conducive to conformal radiation therapy. - Utilizes sophisticated imaging equipment and treatment planning systems for precise tumor localization. - Works closely with the Radiation Oncologist and the therapy team in the preparation of a treatment plan that is customized to the patient's needs. EDUCATION REQUIRED AND/OR PREFERRED: - Associate Degree (2 yr. program) minimum required - Bachelor's College Degree (4 yr program) preferred LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION: - ARRT Certification in Radiation Therapy EXPERIENCE REQUIRED OR PREFERRED: Minimum Required: - Graduate from an accredited Radiation Therapy program - C ertified by the ARRT in Radiation Therapy within 6 months of employment. Preferred: - Over 3 years' experience preferred; - ARRT Certification in Radiation Therapy. SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: - Strong communication and interpersonal skills to facilitate the exchange of information with patients, family members, the radiation oncology treatment team as well as outside entities. - Has high level critical thinking and problem solving skills. - Has the ability to interpret criteria and develop treatment plans as defined by relevant treatment protocols. - Has mathematical skills including algebra, trigonometry, and introductory calculus. - Knowledgeable in the areas of anatomy, physiology, clinical oncology, radiobiology, radiation physics, and radiation safety. - Expertise in the technical aspects of radiation oncology to include simulation and treatment processes to ensure optimal radiation treatment delivery. - Knowledgeable in health care informatics-including the resources, devices and methods to acquire, store and retrieve data. Tools include computers as well as clinical guidelines, current medical terminology, information and communication systems. - Has working knowledge of radiation safety principles and practices as well as current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and other regulatory agencies. - Works independently, but in collaboration with the Radiation Oncologist, Medical Physicist and Dosimetrist. - Results driven and collaborative style to achieve defined objectives.
