Job Summary: Employee will ensure that all physician and nursing needs are met. Ensure that all nursing units are stocked for their daily needs. Initiates a new medical record for each admission, maintains records during the patient stay, and closes the record upon patient discharge. Coordinates testing or procedures for patients ensuring all appropriate staff is notified. Effectively communicates with all parties respectfully. Performs efficiently on a multifunctional level in a fast paced environment. Responsibilities:  Initiates medical record upon admission. Maintains said record during the patient stay and closes the record upon patient discharge.  Initiates follow-up with nursing staff regarding doctor's orders.  An effective resource for nursing staff and an active liaison between physicians and nursing staff.  Serves as unit receptionist for incoming and outgoing calls and visitor information.  Greets patients and families upon arrival to the facility.  Interacts frequently with unit personnel, physicians, visitors, patients' families and other ancillary hospital personnel for the purpose of giving and receiving information.  Answers patient lights and fulfills patient requests for non-care items.  Maintains a courteous and helpful manner when interacting with patients, visitors and staff.  Effectively multitasks in a high stress environment. Continually alert and maintains the ability to perform duties when subjected to frequent and varied interruptions.  Exercises judgment and initiative in the resolution of problems or concerns when they are encountered.  Ensures that all patient and unit equipment, supplies and procedures are ordered and received.  Performs other duties as assigned.   Qualifications:   Experience/Skills    High school diploma required; two years of college level education preferred.     Prior experience of at least one year in a hospital setting is preferred.    Must have the ability to work with all levels of medical personnel, patients and families.     Ability to speak and write concisely with knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
