Summary:  The Charge Nurse is responsible for maintaining the delivery of cost-effective, safe, quality patient care on all nursing units on an assigned shift. The position requires coordination of staff as well as direct and indirect patient care to adult and geriatric patients. The supervisor serves as a liaison between nursing and hospital administration on an assigned shifts. Provides planning and delivery of direct and indirect patient care through the nursing process of Assessment, Planning, Intervention, and Evaluation. Develops nursing care plan in coordination with patient, family and interdisciplinary staff as necessary. Communicates changes in patient's clinical condition with Physicians, Nursing Supervisor/Manager, and co-workers as appropriate. Participates in discharge planning process.  The RN provides and supervises nursing care to patients requiring inpatient rehabilitation. The RN is responsible for quality outcome oriented patient care and is accountable for the delivery of safe care. The RN also assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of those patients being treated by Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants/Rehabilitation Techs. The RN may be assigned to orient staff and students and to assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of the individual.   Some Duties Include:  Advises and encourages staff to make decision at the unit level. Identifies staff members capable of professional decision making and delegates as appropriate. Works with staff members who need assistance in decision making to improve their performance.  Provides input to the nursing staff evaluations as requested by the CCO.  Shares and demonstrates current information/techniques as related to nursing practice.  Demonstrates correct interpretation of policies and standards.  Supports the overall direction and goals of the Nursing Department and the facility.  Assumes a leadership role in the provision of quality nursing care for patients receiving services within the nursing department.  Participates in the monitoring and evaluation of nursing care provided.  Assures unit assignments are complete.  Supervises unit personnel to assure maximum productivity and quality of patient care.  Participates in the management of assigned staff.  Provide on-call coverage as requested by CCO.  Acts as liaison between nursing staff and other facility departments.  Performs and records admission/physical assessment within 24 hours of admission, according to policy.  Interprets the patient's condition and abnormal findings, communicating information in a timely manner to the physician.  Identifies the patient's problems and initiates the appropriate Care Path, planning the appropriate nursing interventions. Contributes to the Initial Plan of Care.  Demonstrates effective communication skills and the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the age and developmental level of the patient.  Assists physicians with patient rounds, examinations or procedures as needed.  Administers and documents medications, both scheduled and prn, in a timely manner, without error.  Communicates with nursing and interdisciplinary team members in a manner that facilitates positive interaction and response.  Identifies clinical issues and seeks interdisciplinary collaboration for resolution as needed.  Complies with policies and procedures relating to infection control for self, patients, visitors, and staff.  Directs and supervises other staff members in an emergency situation in a manner that facilitates positive interaction and response.  Maintains, and assures that staff maintains, good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff.  Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital.  And other duties per the Charge Nurse job description.  Complies with other job specific duties and responsibilities as laid out by job description provided by employer.   Qualifications:  Graduate of accredited registered nurse program with current licensure in the state.   Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support required   Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) preferred   Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, evaluate and direct activities of clinical personnel; effective oral and written communication skills, in English with additional languages preferred; proficiency in basic computer skills required.   Previous supervisory experience REQUIRED
