Job Summary: The Registered Nurse (RN) functions under the general supervision of the Nurse Manager. The RN provides and supervises nursing care to patients requiring inpatient rehabilitation. The RN is responsible for quality outcome oriented patient care and is accountable for the delivery of safe care. The RN also assumes responsibility and accountability for the care of those patients being treated by Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurses and Certified Nursing Assistants/Rehabilitation Techs. The RN may be assigned to orient staff and students and to assume the duties and responsibilities of the supervisor in the absence of the individual. Responsibilities : Accurately performs patient assessments and identifies patient needs. Identifies and initiates appropriate nursing interventions. Provides patient and family teaching throughout the rehabilitation stay and prior to discharge. Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient. Works cooperatively and actively participates with other members of the interdisciplinary team. Participates in Continuous Quality and Performance Improvement (CQPI). May provide input into the budgetary planning process and contributes to cost effectiveness of services and programs provided by the department and hospital. Communicates employee observations and suggestions related to opportunities for improvement and staff educational needs. Maintains positive relationships with all customers. Complies with regulatory and accreditation standards. Responsible for personal and professional development. Maintains ethical practices and HIPAA requirements. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety and infection control. Maintains medical staff rules/requirements, as well as regulatory body standards. Promotes rehabilitation nursing philosophy and scope of practice. Actively participates in team conferences. Performs timely and appropriate documentation relating to medical necessity in the medical record. Responsible for completion and revision of the Interdisciplinary Care Plan for each patient. Performs timely and accurate FIM assessments. Provides a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff and complies with appropriate and approved safety standards. Supports the leadership of the hospital in a professional manner and acts as a role model. May assist in completion of performance evaluations. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications: Professional Requirements: Assures departments adhere to dress code, appearances are neat and clean, and proper identification is worn at all times. Assures completion of annual education requirements and performance evaluations. Ensures departments comply with patient confidentiality at all times. Maintains, and assures that staff maintains, good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, departments and staff. Assures representation of the organization in a positive and professional manner. Assures leadership and/or staff attendance at committee meetings, CQPI and management meetings, as appropriate. Resolves personnel concerns at the departmental level. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures regarding department operations, fire, safety, infection control and emergency management. Effectively and consistently communicates administrative directives to personnel. Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the hospital. Experience/Skills: Graduate of accredited registered nurse program with current licensure in the state. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support preferred. Certified Rehabilitation Registered Nurse (CRRN) preferred. Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, evaluate and direct activities of clinical personnel; effective oral and written communication skills, in English with additional languages preferred; proficiency in basic computer skills required. Physical and Safety Requirements: Good general health and stress coping ability. Ability to walk or stand for periods of at least 8 hours. Stooping, sitting, bending and carrying of items in excess of 75 lbs including the ability to lift or move patients. Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with all constituents (patients, families, peers, and other healthcare team members) as needed for leadership, assessment, intervention, and professional development.
