The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner of the outpatient clinic works as member of the multi-disciplinary team which is under the leadership of the clinical director, in order to provide holistic and comprehensive medical and mental health services to clients. The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner assists clinical staff members in the development of therapeutic treatment plans and skills for providing services to persons with substance use and co-occurring mental disorders.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide psychiatric evaluation services to program participants referred for care. Provide ongoing psychiatric care to participants as appropriate to the need of the program participants and their treatment plans. Provide evaluation to program participants to assess the severity of substance use and/or co-occurring psychopathology. Provide individual psychotherapy. Provide medication management as appropriate on a scheduled, urgent, or emergency basis. Provide input on the development of psychiatric/medical care and substance use disorder treatment recovery plans; attending case conferences as appropriate. Makes referrals for appropriate internal and external mental health services. Provide consultation to mental health and clinical staff as appropriate or as directed. Provide interface and follow up links with other psychiatric facilities and providers. Prescribe and monitor psychiatric medication. Discuss with and/or otherwise provide instructions to mental health and other clinical staff on various counseling techniques, theory and studies for developing diverse therapeutic techniques for dual diagnoses population. Promptly (immediately after each session)utilize the web-based AWARDS Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system to document sessions, recommendations for treatment so that they can easily be shared with treatment providers, billing staff and other appropriate personnel. Working knowledge of the part 822 APG categories for documentation, billing, reporting; use of encounter forms and AWARDS for psychiatric assessment, assessments with counseling, medication prescribing, and medication management. Provide consultative guidance to mental health staff assigned to the clinic. Various other duties as specified by the Medical Director   EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor Degree and four years’ experience in the field of Nursing. Valid New York State Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner license required, Board Certification in Psychiatry a plus. A minimum of two years’ experience in substance abuse treatment highly preferred. Good knowledge and working skills with computers and EMR systems.
