The Sprott Department of Surgery at University Health Network (UHN) is conducting a search for an academic surgeon to lead the Division of Neurosurgery.  This appointment is for a five-year term, renewable once, following a successful review. This is a full-time faculty position at the level of Associate or Full Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto and will be based at the Toronto Western Hospital (TWH).  The effective date of this appointment is flexible; however, we hope to have this position filled by February 1st, 2020.  The Division Head would oversee the administration activities of the Division of Neurosurgery, with responsibilities for clinical, administrative and academic activities including excellence in patient care, teaching of medical students, residents and fellows; research; and related service duties.   Assuring the highest quality of care in the division is an important focus of this position.

Qualifications include MD with specialist certification in neurosurgery and eligibility for licensure in the Province of Ontario. Candidates must be eligible for certification with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario.  The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills encompassing integrative thinking and managerial tools, emotional and political intelligence evidenced by a strong track record.  Leadership training is an asset.  

University Health Network is comprised of the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute and the Michener Institute. The Division of Neurosurgery in the Surgery and Critical Care Program at UHN and the Krembil Neuroscience Program at TWH is one of the largest divisions in Canada and offers care in all areas of neurosurgery including neuro-oncology, functional neurosurgery, neurovascular skull base surgery, epilepsy, and spine surgery. The division is currently comprised of 12 full-time clinical faculty committed to excellence in patient care, teaching and research in multiple UHN Programs as well as numerous research scientists.  

Salary will be between the range of $600,000 to $800,000, estimate based on fee for service billings with additional salary support commensurate with the successful candidate’s leadership qualifications and experience.
