Speech Language Pathologist needed for hospital in New York, NY! Job Summary: The staff Speech and Language Pathologist evaluates and treats patients referred for speech, language, cognitive, and dysphagia dysfunction. Essential Duties and Responsibilities • Evaluates and treats patients with neurogenic speech language/swallowing impairment; communicates findings to members of the Rehab team via participation in patient conferences and in written reports. • Recommends diets, and performs modified barium swallow studies. • Provides patients, families and caregivers with ongoing counseling regarding the nature of swallowing and communication disorders and their ramifications for functional performance. • Determines appropriate tasks to be undertaken by Speech students. • Orders treatment materials as appropriate, maintaining cost effectiveness. • Institutes speech pathology in-service training programs for inter-disciplinary staff. • Formulates and implements group therapy programs to address the needs of communication impaired patients and their families in the community. • Consults with and establishes liaisons with existing senior citizen centers, stroke clubs, organizations for head injured, to; educate, share information, and develop appropriate community programs, referrals, and follow-up. • Designs appropriate PI instrument and participates in performance improvement. Acts as a member of the PI committee as assigned by the Chief Speech Therapist or Therapy Manager. • Maintains accurate patient treatment and attendance statistics. • Assures public relations within the community. Promotes the profession at universities and colleges. • Participates in program development for Rehab unit and within the Speech department. • Performs other related duties. Skills • New graduate or up to 2 years of experience • New York State Speech-Language Pathologist License Issuing Agency: Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech and Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)-American Speech Language Hearing Association • Excellent written, oral, communication and interpersonal skills.
