Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery
Position Overview:
Join The University of Kansas Health System in the Labor and Delivery unit at our Great Bend facility. This full-time position offers a dynamic healthcare environment dedicated to providing exceptional maternal and neonatal care. You will be an integral part of a multidisciplinary team, ensuring the safety and well-being of mothers and newborns during critical moments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to obstetric patients, including prenatal, intra-partum, and postpartum care.
- Monitor fetal heart rates and other vital signs to assess fetal well-being.
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Educate patients and families on pregnancy, labor, delivery, and postpartum care.
- Respond promptly to obstetric emergencies, demonstrating clinical competence and sound judgment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of patient care and interventions.
- Adhere to hospital policies, safety protocols, and infection control standards.
- Participate in shift handovers to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications and Certifications:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
- Valid and current licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) license issued by the Kansas State Board of Nursing.
- Certifications required within specified timeframes:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – within two weeks of employment
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – required
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) – within six months of hire
- Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) – within one year of employment
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – within six months of hire
Experience and Skills:
- Prior experience in obstetrics, labor, delivery, or neonatal nursing preferred but not mandatory.
- Strong clinical assessment skills and ability to respond effectively under pressure.
- Excellent communication and patient advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Schedule and Compensation:
- Full-time night shift from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM.
- Rotating weekends and holidays to ensure fair staffing coverage.
- Every other weekend off.
- On-call duty as needed, limited to no more than one shift per week.
- Compensation ranges from $30.00 to $36.50 per hour, with shift differentials:
- Evening shift (3:00 PM – 11:00 PM): +$2.30/hour
- Night shift (11:00 PM – 7:00 AM): +$3.75/hour
- Weekend shifts (Friday 7:00 PM – Monday 7:00 AM): +$3.00/hour
