Description

We are seeking a skilled Cardiothoracic Surgery Nurse Practitioner for our client in Indiana, starting Jun 1, 2026. This 60-day assignment involves a Monday to Friday, 7 AM to 4 PM schedule, with night call from 4 PM to 7 AM. The role primarily focuses on OR first assist duties, including vein harvesting, alongside comprehensive patient care, rounding, and performing pre-operative physical exams within a dynamic cardiothoracic surgery environment.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform OR first assist duties, including vein/artery harvesting utilizing the Maquet system.
  • Assist in surgery as required.
  • Conduct daily hospital rounds.
  • Provide acute and chronic patient care, including histories, physical examinations, inpatient and outpatient consultations.
  • Complete discharge summaries and monitor therapies and medications.
  • Manage care components such as chest tube removal, pacing wire removal, Cardiac Rehab, nutritional needs, and wound care (suture and staple removal, debridement).
  • Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in consultation with the Cardiovascular Surgeon.
  • Write prescriptions.
  • Order tests.
  • Perform pre-operative physical exams.
  • Conduct suture removal.
  • Respond to emergencies, including the use of CPR and ACLS protocols.
  • Assess patient health status, including wellness, compliance with care plans, and determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  • Anticipate seeing approximately 10 outpatient and 5-8 inpatient patients per day.
