Department: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, NICU, Neonatal ICU





Position Summary (includes but is not limited to): 
The Registered Nurse as a Charge Nurse/Relief Charge/Adult Critical Care is responsible for the
provision of patient care based upon the nursing process and in compliance with hospital policies,
protocols and procedures. Maintains current competency with the nursing skills required for
assigned unit/department.
Demonstrates knowledge regarding Standards of Care and Standards of Practice in the area
assigned. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care.
Maintains professional and effective working relationships with all members of the health care
team. Demonstrates knowledge of principles of growth and development over life span and
possesses ability to assess data reflective of patient status and interpret appropriate information
needed to identify patient requirements relative to his/her age specific needs. Maintains calmness
in a crisis situation and directs staff members appropriately. Provides care needed as described in
department policies and procedures.


Key Accountabilities (includes, but is not limited to):

Active member of the Nursing Leadership/Management Team. Provides mentorship/coaching/supervision of staff which may include (but not
limited to): Performance evaluations and implementation of the corrective action process. Participates in the selection of potential new hire candidates within the department. Assist in identifying staff educational needs. Assist in the management of the unit budget. Able to identify and manage staff behaviors that are not in alignment with ICARE
standards, regulations, hospital process, protocols, policies and procedures. Provides direct and ongoing supervision of staff with regard to conflict resolution and
personnel policy compliance, including input and/or completion of performance evaluations
and disciplinary actions. Formulates staff schedule along with the Clinical Coordinator/Director. Other duties as assigned.
