Pathologists’ Assistant (PA)
Location: Fort Wayne, IN area
Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
 
Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Pathologists’ Assistant to join our clinical team. In this role, you will function independently under the general supervision of a Board-Certified Pathologist, taking primary responsibility for the gross examination and dictation of surgical tissue specimens. This is a vital role in our diagnostic process, ensuring the highest standards of accuracy and efficiency in patient care.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Gross Examination: Perform thorough macroscopic examination and dictation on a wide variety of surgical specimens.
  • Specimen Preparation: Submit appropriate tissue sections for processing; coordinate specialized testing including lymphoma phenotyping and quantitative iron studies.
  • Clinical Photography: Document significant gross findings through medical photography as directed by the Pathologist.
  • Laboratory Stewardship: Maintain a high-functioning grossing station, ensuring all necessary supplies are stocked and equipment is sterilized.
  • Compliance & Safety: Adhere to all laboratory safety protocols and regulatory guidelines (CAP/CLIA) to protect the integrity of sensitive health information and patient data.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in ongoing professional development and stay current with evolving procedural manuals and industry best practices.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a Pathologist Assistant program (NAACLS accredited preferred).
  • Certification: ASCP (PA) certification or equivalent is required.
  • Experience: While 2 years of post-certification experience is preferred, we warmly welcome Pathologists' Assistant students nearing the completion of their formal training program to apply.
  • Skills: Strong anatomical knowledge, excellent dictation skills, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality and security in a clinical environment.
