Emergency Medicine - Academic Appointment 

Syracuse, NY 

 

Position Highlights

  • Work-Life Balance:  12-hour shifts (7a-7p or 8a-8p, with flexibility on start times) and a 1,800-hour annual clinical requirement, about 12.5 shifts a month, with no sick call obligation
  • Ideal Work Environment: A non-trauma, non-cath-lab setting (STEMI, trauma, spine, and pediatric cases transfer to the downtown campus) that keeps the pace focused, with APPs covering Fast Track.
  • Professional Growth Opportunities: An Assistant Professor faculty title with an optional path to Associate Professor for those interested in academic work, plus the chance to grow with a department preparing for a new, larger Emergency Department funded by a $450 million state allocation, expected in about 5 years


Compensation & Benefits:

  • Financial Package: Base salary of $300,000 for 1,800 clinical hours, plus $200 per hour for any hours worked beyond that threshold
  • Additional Bonus Incentives: Clinical incentive bonuses up to $20,000 per year.
  • Sign-On Bonus: $15,000
  • Full Benefits plus Retirement: Combined retirement and benefit contribution of approximately 19% of base salary, roughly $60,000 per year pre-tax
  • Student Loan Repayment Assistance:  Eligible for the Doctors Across New York (DANY) grant, offering up to approximately $200,000 in loan repayment for service in an underserved area; the institution also qualifies for Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF)


Qualifications

  • Degree:  MD or DO
  • Certifications:  Board certified or board eligible in Emergency Medicine.
  • Licensure: Eligible for or currently holding a New York State medical license
  • Skillset:  Comfortable managing a high-volume, fast-paced community ED, with confidence coordinating transfers for STEMI, trauma, spine, and pediatric cases to the downtown campus.
  • Experience:  Emergency Medicine residency training required; 2027 graduating residents will be considered
