Pathologist Assistant Supervisor

Longview, TX | Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

A leading clinical laboratory organization is seeking an experienced Pathologist Assistant Supervisor to join its team in East Texas. This is an excellent opportunity for a Pathologist Assistant with strong leadership experience who is looking to take the next step in their career.

Under the general supervision of Pathologists, the Pathologist Assistant Supervisor will independently perform and assist with the dissection, description, and histologic sampling of a full range of surgical specimens while overseeing and supporting the laboratory team.

Position Highlights

Responsibilities

  • Ensure appropriate specimen accession and processing.

  • Obtain and review clinical history as needed.

  • Describe and dissect surgical specimens and obtain appropriate tissue samples for histologic processing.

  • Perform special procedures including tumor triage, coronary artery perfusion, Faxitron, and other specialized techniques.

  • Obtain biological specimens for analysis when required.

  • Photograph pertinent gross specimens and microscopic slides.

  • Maintain surgical pathology protocols, reports, files, photographs, and microscopic slides.

  • Ensure accurate completion of coding and documentation.

  • Assist with preparation, performance, and documentation of human postmortem examinations.

  • Participate in quality management initiatives and continuous improvement programs.

  • Troubleshoot complex or problematic cases and assist Pathologists in ensuring accurate diagnoses.

  • Maintain department staffing schedules and ensure appropriate coverage.

  • Develop and conduct training programs to improve staff knowledge, skills, and quality of work.

  • Conduct employee performance evaluations and make recommendations regarding disciplinary actions when necessary.

  • Provide leadership, direction, and support to the Pathologist Assistant team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Laboratory Science or related field.

  • Completion of a Pathologists' Assistant program accredited by ASCP.

  • 3–5 years of experience as a Pathologists' Assistant.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently and effectively collaborate with Pathologists and laboratory staff.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
