What You’ll Do
- Provide direct nursing care for Medical Surgical/Telemetry patients with common acute diagnoses.
- Manage patients with conditions such as sepsis, cellulitis, DVT/PE, CHF, COPD, COVID, and pneumonia.
- Support post-operative overflow, including Total Joints and GI/abdominal surgeries (as applicable).
- Deliver safe, patient-centered care while maintaining appropriate RN ratios (1:5–6 days; nights 1:6).
- Perform and document nursing care using Meditech Expanse EMR and facility medication systems (Pyxis).
- Provide care for required specialty needs such as wound management, JP drains, wound vacs, and dialysis catheter care.
- Complete required competencies, including an EKG competency exam prior to arrival (includes MedSurg RN).
What You Need
Required
- Active RN license (per assignment requirements)
- BLS
- ACLS
- NIHSS
- 2 years of experience in acute care (Med/Surg/telemetry related experience preferred as part of acute care background)
- Ability to PASS an EKG competency exam prior to arrival
- Experience/competency with skills including: wound care, JP drains, wound vacs, hemodialysis catheter care/fistulas, PCA, pain management
Preferred
- Familiarity working on Med/Surg + telemetry units
- Experience with EMR environments (Meditech Expanse is referenced for this facility)
About the Assignment
This assignment is on a brand-new Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with 18 beds at a growing facility. Patient needs may include sepsis, CHF, COPD, pneumonia/COVID, DVT/PE, cellulitis, and occasional post-op overflow (such as total joints and GI/abdominal procedures). Travelers will float first within Med/Surg areas in the hospital, with a structured orientation process (hospital orientation 2–4 days, plus 2 days on-unit orientation depending on experience).
