Employed by the hospital for the purpose of enhancing the nature and quality of care for a group of at risk or critically ill neonates. Works in collaboration with the NICU Unit Director, head nurses, staff nurses, discharge coordinator, and staff neonatologists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of medical and nursing care. Major areas of responsibility include: primary medical management, emergency stabilization of critically ill neonates, preceptorship of NNP students, staff development and education, parent education, discharge planning as well as transporting of neonates by ground transportation to and from regional facilities.
