Las Palmas Medical Center is also the only Kidney Transplant Center in the Region. Las Palmas Rehabilitation Hospital is a separate facility with newly renovated patient rooms, exercise equipment and cafeteria. The physicians, nurses and staff at our 325-bed facility are committed to caring for our community with compassionate, quality healthcare.  We are located on the Westside of El Paso, Texas close to the University of Texas El Paso campus. We provide exceptional patient care services to the El Paso and Fort Bliss communities, as well as Southern New Mexico and West Texas Regions.   POSITION SUMMARY:  Responsible for the assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation, and care of patients during the transport process under the direction of Director, Administrative Director, and Medical Director of the transport team. Collaborates with other professionals to ensure effective and efficient patient care delivery and the achievement of desired patient outcomes and can function autonomously in an advanced clinical role with responsibilities in the areas of clinical care, leadership, education, consultation and research. Contributes to the provision of quality care through performance improvement techniques that demonstrate positive outcomes in patient care.  Assist management in the development of systems, processes and programs to improve quality of patient care and increase nursing efficiency throughout the transport process. Develops, coordinates, and monitors unit preceptor program in collaboration with transport team administration.  ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:  1. Provides comprehensive nursing care of a critically ill neonate, infant, pediatric and/or maternal patient in the transport environment using transport protocols. Initiates, monitors and maintains mechanically ventilated patients to include the administration of respiratory care treatments.  a. Completes admission interview/assessment accurately upon arrival at the referring facility.  b. Documents patient assessment consistently, completely and accurately.  c. Formulates nursing diagnosis, evaluates outcome, revises care and summarizes rationale behind nursing interventions based on transport protocols.  d. Safely and correctly administers medications and IV therapy  e. Carries out appropriate interventions based on identified changes in patient condition.  f. Evaluates plan of care to determine need for modification.  g. Integrates available resources into patient plan of care.  h. Provides clinical support to referring hospital staff.  i. Interacts effectively with team members.  j. Communicates effectively and accurately with the LPDS Healthcare Pediatric Intensivist, Neonatologist and MFM throughout the transport.  k. Communicates effectively and accurately with the nursing staff and physicians of all referring facilities.  l. Provides a call back to each referring facility after each transport to update the staff, physician, as well as the family of the patient.  m. Assists in weekly follow up of each patient transported to the referring facilities and physicians.
